Her still lifes rarely became laboured, the colours always pure and alive, like the flowers she had picked fresh from the garden that morning, when she would wander slowly about, scissors in hand, picking a nasturtium here, cutting a poppy there, evaluating the balance of colours as she built the perfect posy.
