Ruth at Ventnor Sanatorium
Her condition required her to convalesce, so she was sent to Ventnor Sanatorium on the Isle of Wight. They say every cloud has a silver lining and towards the end of her stay she met Derek, also suffering from T.B. in a Miss Pilling’s textiles class. Derek gave her a scarf he’d made and in return Ruth was to cut his hair. However, the taxi arrived to take her to the ferry home and she remembers leaving his hair half-cut – he wasn’t very pleased.
