Throughout the 1970s and 80s Ruth made beautiful ceramic beads which she sold in Duff Gallery and a few selected outlets including Liberty's, They proved to be very popular and Dora joined in, to help in the production. Derek would curse, as he always packed the kiln and they were so fiddly, every single bead having to be carefully placed on the kiln shelf so they didn’t touch. Ruth was very excited when she saw the BBC news readers Angela Rippon and Anna Ford wearing them. They must have shared a string of beads because they took it in turns to wear them. Later Ruth turned her skills to making porcelain earrings which she sold through the same outlets.
