Pink on red I

Close to a spiritual awakening, Ruth had taken a step of faith. Putting aside the painting of that which was about her, she decided to paint what was inside her, to transmute her psyche.

Ruth’s paintings had always retained some air of softness and charm and so it was, she approaches her abstracts in the same manner. Where some artists soften their edges by encouraging their oils to bleed out or merge, Ruth would knit a fine web of crayon, pastel and brushstroke before painting on inks and rubbing in oils. Working with these controlled pulses of colour, her pictures appear to radiate tranquillity.
