Whether the thought had been simmering away for decades, who knows, but now in her sixties, she started thinking, “If they could do it, I can do it, why not? I felt it would be nice to do abstract painting…” ironically, she continues, “Derek could help criticise.”
So began a whole new chapter in her work. First by way of small semi-abstract watercolours, some involving oil pastels, simple experiments in colour and pattern, invoking thoughts of her tulip beds, of cornfields and of those early forest fires.
