Sadly the family broke up and the children moved away from Arundel and along with the pressures of school, she saw less and less of them.
Ruth seldom left Arundel, a very rare trip up to London to take in an exhibition with Derek and sometimes a trip to visit Jon and Kati, their close friends in Belgium. The south of Europe filled her with dread, the dread of seeing mistreated dogs. Her odd trip to Portugal was the exception.
During her life she dedicate much timed and what little income she received, to the fight against animal cruelty and in her seventies spent many long cold nights picketing the live animal export trade at Shoreham docks along with Derek’s aunty Joan.
