Steep hill
Nicholas had shared his passions with Ruth, his passions for painters, for William Blake and especially Samual Palmer. Palmer’s landscapes offered glimpses through a frame of trees, of secret meadows beyond, with orange and ochres playing among the cornfields. Ruth was already there with her landscapes, but these moments and thoughts that she shared with Nicholas, reinforced those ideas of hers and helped to regain some of her lost confidence.
