Josse recalls how when his parent’s friends called by, they might ask how her paintings were going and she might shyly creep upstairs to her studio and fetch a painting she had been working on. She would always qualify it by saying, that it ‘wasn’t quite finished’ for fear that she might leave her work open to rejection. Everybody loved them, but still she rarely showed them in public and in the end gave away more than she ever sold.
