Ruth at Hillesden
Ruth at Hillesden

Now aged twenty-three it must have been quite an adventure for Ruth as she remembers “Derek was the only one who could drive and we all drove up there in his taxi.”

The village of Hillesden only had one shop and the church, and the Vicarage only two taps, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. They divided up the house into small flats. The atmosphere was youthful and dedicated: they were all painters to various degrees, but John knew how to make pottery and together they set up a kiln that could fire to earthenware. Ruth and Derek were soon making pots for Heals.
